Maya, the shaman and the infinite mind

"Maya, the shaman and the infinite mind" is my first fiction book. It's  the story of an initiation that takes place in the modern world. An intuitive South American girl and a rationalist Spanish publicist travel by car from Miami to Ecuador.

Along the way they meet incredible characters and have intense dialogues about realities beyond the visible. The sexual connection between the protagonists, coupled with their sensory experiences with power plants, make for a dynamic, colorful and captivating story.

The plot, in detail

The daughter of an Ecuadorian shaman - Maya - receives from her father the mission to locate Ádam, a young Spanish publicist living in Miami. Ádam lives the pleasures of urban life to the fullest, with drugs, parties and Russian models. Maya follows Ádam for a few days until he notices her and they meet.

Maya tells him that they must travel to Ecuador because her father wants to reveal to her who he really is. Adam, rather incredulous but very attracted to Maya, agrees. The story unfolds as the two drive through the southern U.S. and Mexico in Adam's convertible. Lots of beautiful sunsets, fantastic sexual connection described in great detail, and snappy dialogue about the details of daily life from a spiritually open perspective. Maya studied in India. She has a very deep and scientific understanding of spirituality.

The dialogues are central to the plot of the novel. Maya shares her deep esoteric knowledge and helps Ádam to have a more holistic view of reality. Ádam's first surprise is to discover that there is a science surrounding realities on other planes of existence, and that not all forms of spirituality are religious. Ádam was trained in the scientific method, but eventually surrenders to the evidence presented by Maya that there are other realities beyond what can be seen and touched.

They have transformative peyote trips, contact with indigenous grandparents, voodoo healers, drug dealers, and other exotic characters. "Maya, the shaman and the infinite mind" portrays a cultural encounter between urban hedonism and the deepest wisdom of the planet.

Eventually, they arrive in Ecuador, go deep into the Amazon, and arrive at Maya's house, the final destination. Adam is impressed by the presence of Maya's father, a scientific shaman who belongs to a network of Inca ancestral knowledge custodians.

Finally, the shaman reveals his true identity to Adam. Ádam is the reincarnation of a 16th century Spanish navigator, an idealist who traveled the world gathering information about different ways of understanding life. He connected a lot with what he saw in India and South America, and created a school of knowledge for the study of consciousness based on ancestral American and Vedic knowledge.

The navigator found enlightenment and before his death decided that he would reincarnate again to continue his mission of keeping initiatory knowledge alive. Maya's father is the direct descendant of the lineage of Inca Yáchacs with whom the navigator connected in America. His ancestor was the source of information of the navigator's Inca knowledge. They agreed that their lineage will be the one who will help in each new reincarnation of the navigator to reconnect with his mission.

Adam is the most recent reincarnation of the navigator. And Maya is the most recent descendant of the Inca shamanic lineage. The reincarnation before Adam had had the intuition that it was time to open up the hitherto hidden knowledge and spread it to all people. Before he could do so, he died.

Adam, who had already been prepared by Maya to open his mind to the subtleties of life, is surprised but accepts her design. And he immediately sets his advertising mind to creating ways to transmit to people a knowledge that will help them to be freer and to rediscover their deepest essence.
